Tung Auditorium – Dr Jazz and the Cheshire Cats – Fats Waller’s London Suite

As part of its first performance as a Tung Affiliate Ensemble, Dr Jazz and the Cheshire Cats Big Band presented a special interpretation of Fats Waller’s six-movement London Suite featuring acclaimed jazz pianist Adam Fairhall as soloist. Adam is an internationally respected jazz pianist and improviser based near Manchester, known for his work with Nat Birchall and his wide-ranging solo performances.

The second half of the concert followed a transatlantic travel theme, with vocalists Jo Robinson-Howarth and Peter Whittles performing swing classics accompanied by photographs from the University of Liverpool’s Cunard Archive.

Dr Jazz and the Cheshire Cats Big Band was founded in 2002 by Professor Catherine Tackley and is renowned for authentic performances of swing music from the 1930s onwards
