Oh my gosh! Look at her……Kicks?!

I welcomed home a very bright pair of sneakers recently!

…or are they Kicks? I find all this new terminology around what I used to call ‘pumps’ or ‘trainers’ very confusing! After falling in love with my grey low top Converse All-Stars there was definitely space, if not in our shoe cupboard but certainly in my life, for another pair of flatties.

I’d originally had my eye on the Adidas Gazelle but was very disappointed with that weird plastic construction they insist on using for the tongue! What a shame as they have some lovely colours in that style. So the search was on and after a good root on the Adidas website I happened upon their Originals “Jeans” shoes. The blurb from Adidas says that this shoe is “Fresh from the archive, …designed after the authentic leisure sneaker of 1980. The suede upper comes with bright contrasting colours for a bold look. A leather lining and sleek gum rubber outsole finish these low tops in clean, comfortable style”

And bold they certainly are!

There was only two “colourways” available on the website ….(see how I’m dropping these cool phrases in…..lol!) which were equally as eye poppingly bright as each other but in the end I went crazy and ordered the green and solar orange! It’s a brave choice but I absolutely love them…. [she says, putting on her raybans].

And so returning to my first point about the confusing nature of sneaker terminology…..inside the shoe box was some further information about the shoes, in particular a reference to…”terrace community” at which point my curiosity got the better of me and I consulted Google. Read on if you want to know how “Terracewear” Went From Football Casuals to Drake’s Wardrobe or, and more importantly, how to talk about them in a cool and informed way ….enjoy!
