Ladies lunch @ Tiger Rock

I recently had a lovely lunch and catch-up with my friends Karen and Di at Tiger Rock on Allerton Road.

As it was the Chinese New Year weekend I re-jigged my Pandora bracelet around my Asian themed charms including my Chinese lantern, Buddha and Chinese good luck money bag. The nearest I could get to a Rooster (which is this years zodiac animal) was my bird charm! Well, I tried!!

OOTD was a faux leather black pencil skirt from Zara and an embroidered black sweater from New Look. I had ‘given up’ a bit on New Look recently but picked up a few new pieces from there before Christmas which has restored my faith in the store!

Still missing the delicious food Al and I had sampled on a recent trip to Thailand I was keen to try Tiger Rock’s menu which they describe as “Thai, Chinese, Malaysian, Singaporean, Vietnamese, Laotian dishes served with a twist”!

…..but first the drinks – cos you’ve got to have a gab before you even start looking at the menu! Luckily enough the staff were very patient with us as it took us ages to decide on everything! I took Di’s lead and ordered a G&T …followed by a few more! Have you noticed the way that G&T’s are served in these huge goldfish bowls these days!

….and so to the menu, loads of choice here from small plates to salads and large bowls. Tiger Rock calls this ‘Hawker’ food – I’m not trendy enough to know what this actually means but I think its following the ‘street food’ vibe which is everywhere now! The girls and I made up a shared starter from 2 of the ‘small plates’ section Hor Mok Pla (steamed hake with chilli, lime and ginger) & Po Pia Bhet (duck rolls) with a side order of roasted sweet potatoes with coconut flakes. These were fab, the fish especially!

For mains we choose the “Geng Keow Wan Gai” (chicken green curry), “Gon Chau Udon” (stir fried beef) and “Nam Prik Moo” (chopped pork Laos style). My thai green curry was lovely and served in the hottest skillet I’ve ever had the misfortune to get burnt by….so watch your paws guys! (The staff did tell me to watch it, I blame the gin!)

We were all pretty stuffed after all that so didn’t even dare to look at the dessert menu (which is rare for me) and opted for coffee! There’s always next time!

I really enjoyed my Tiger Rock lunch – fabulous food in a chilled setting with two lovely and inspiring ladies! Looking forward to the next one! xx
