Birthday lunch @ Piccolino

It was my Mum’s birthday recently so we popped into Liverpool to celebrate the occasion with a lunch at Piccolino’s.

As the name probably hints at Piccolino is an Italian restaurant which is located on Cook Street.

As usual my Mum surprised and amazed all the Italians in there with her command of their language! After visiting Italy many times my Mum decided to learn the lingo and is now pretty proficient. I believe that her pronunciation is particularly good! Puts me to shame really, I always try to learn a few phrases for our travels but it never really progresses from there.

After looking at the menu Al and I went for a starter of:

BRUSCHETTA AL POMODORO | Classic tomato & basil, toasted ciabatta

Stu got:

PANE ALL’AGLIO | Garlic bread, tomato & basil (no photo)

For mains Al and I went for:

POLLO MILANESE | Chicken breast, Parmesan & rosemary breadcrumb, buffalo mozzarella, spaghetti pomodoro

The birthday girl went for:

RISOTTO FUNGHI | Mushrooms, truffle oil & cheese wafer (no photo)

Jill went for:

RAVIOLI ZUCCA | Roast butternut squash, amaretti biscuits, hazelnuts & sage butter

and Stu got:

CAPRICCIOSA | Mushrooms, ham, olives, artichokes, tomato & basil pizza

All in all a very nice lunch, a good catch-up and a very Happy Birthday to my lovely Mum!
