A Bracing Walk – Helm Crag

A miniture but still an enjoyable fell, the ‘Lion and the Lamb’ just out from Grasmere was completely empty when we went up it the other day. Helm Crag as it’s formally called is only 405 meters but is one of the most easily recognisable in the Lakes due to it’s crags. The trail across the top of the crag reaches the base of the true summit known as the ‘Howitzer’ which needs a tricky scramble to get to stand on the top. something that both Wainwright and I have never done.
